Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Leadership

What Does Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Leadership Mean Today?

Imagine a company with 500 employees that has just hired a new senior leader. The diversity numbers look good on paper. And yet, year after year, women and people from minority backgrounds leave at higher-than-average rates. Why? Because diversity alone is not enough. What is missing is genuine inclusion – and leadership that embeds equity into the structure of the organisation.

In Germany, the pressure on companies, public bodies, and non-profit organisations to deliver on DEI – not just promise it – is growing rapidly. The AGG (General Equal Treatment Act) provides the legal framework. Yet practice often tells a different story: bias embedded in recruitment systems, unequal promotion opportunities, and a lack of accountability at leadership level. According to the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW), women in Germany still earn on average around 18% less than men. The need for action is clear.

This course – Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Leadership – is for everyone who wants to understand DEI not as a buzzword, but as a strategic leadership responsibility. You will learn how to embed equity into organisational systems, make inclusion measurable, and remain effective as a leader in difficult situations. The course is practical, evidence-based, and tailored to the German and European context.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Is DEI legally required in Germany? +

There is no explicit legal DEI obligation – but the AGG (General Equal Treatment Act) requires employers to prevent discrimination. Companies with 500 or more employees also have additional pay transparency reporting obligations under the EntgTranspG. Large listed companies must also comply with EU sustainability reporting (CSRD), which includes social indicators such as diversity. DEI is therefore no longer optional – it is legally and strategically relevant.

02 What does a Diversity Manager earn in Germany? +

Salary depends on experience, company size, and industry. Entry-level professionals can expect around €40,000–50,000 per year. With several years of experience and strategic responsibility, €60,000–80,000 is realistic. In DAX corporations or international organisations, DEI leaders at C-level can earn significantly more.

03 What is the difference between Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion? +

The difference matters. Diversity describes the variety of people in an organisation (background, gender, age, etc.). Equity means fair conditions – not treating everyone identically, but fairly. Inclusion means that everyone genuinely belongs and their voice is heard. This course addresses all three dimensions and shows how they work together in practice.

04 Is this course also suitable for people without leadership experience? +

Yes. The course is designed for both experienced leaders and those aspiring to a leadership role. The content is structured so that you can start without any prior DEI knowledge. What matters most is a willingness to question your own assumptions and to take on new perspectives.

05 How does this course differ from a standard diversity training? +

Standard diversity trainings raise awareness – this course builds capability. You will not just learn why DEI matters, but how you as a leader can act concretely: from designing equitable systems to handling resistance and building durable governance structures. The focus is on strategic leadership action, not awareness alone.

06 Is the certificate recognised by German employers? +

Demand for DEI competencies is growing rapidly in Germany – particularly in large companies, the public sector, and international organisations. The CPD-accredited certificate strengthens your profile in applications and is highly visible on platforms such as LinkedIn. It complements existing HR or management qualifications and signals that you understand leadership at a contemporary level.

07 How does the course address AI and algorithmic discrimination? +

Module 6 is dedicated explicitly to the topic of Technology, AI, and Algorithmic Equity. You will learn how AI-driven systems in recruitment, performance assessment, or credit scoring can amplify inequality – and how, as a leader, you can critically assess and fairly design algorithms. This topic is particularly relevant in the context of the EU AI Act, which has been progressively coming into force since 2024.
